The story behind the Shoulder Birkin

Designed by Jean Paul Gaultier during his years directing Hermès women's ready-to-wear, from 2003 to 2010. The original dates to 2004, made in 40 and 42 cm until 2013, with a return in 2024 in 29 and 39 cm.

It keeps the Birkin's flap, sangles, turn-lock, clochette with lock and keys, and double rolled handles, but lengthens the handles and lowers the height so it sits comfortably under the arm in an east-west shape.

This edition pairs Black Evercolor with embroidered toile in the Bivouac motif, which adds texture to an otherwise minimal exterior, and palladium hardware keeps the black crisp.

Collector's Insight:
The Shoulder Light keeps the east-west Shoulder Birkin idea in a smaller, lighter bag, and the embroidered toile sets it apart from all-leather Birkins.

Resale Insight:
Buyers check the embroidered toile for pulls and soiling and the long Evercolor handles for wear.
