The JaneFinds Standard
Condition Guide
Every piece is graded against one standard, applied consistently across the entire collection. Each tier carries specific criteria, so the grade you read is the grade you receive. Condition grades the piece itself; the accessories that accompany it (lock, keys, clochette, dust bag, box) are itemized separately in each listing.
1 – Pristine (Store Fresh)
No signs of wear or use. Hardware gleams at its original finish, leather holds its factory luster, and the interior is untouched, often with protective films still intact.
Key indicators: flawless leather, pristine hardware, perfect shape retention, untouched interior.
What to expect: boutique-fresh in every detail.
2 – Excellent
Nearly imperceptible signs of careful use. May show faint handling marks or hairline scratches on hardware while maintaining exceptional overall condition.
Key indicators: light handling marks, minor hardware scratches, excellent shape.
What to expect: premium condition with careful previous ownership.
3 – Very Good
Light wear consistent with careful, regular use. Minor corner softening or light surface marks, with structural integrity and appeal retained.
Key indicators: light corner wear, faint surface marks, sound structure.
What to expect: an honestly worn piece that still presents beautifully.
4 – Good
Clear signs of regular use while remaining fully functional. Noticeable wear at stress points and some patina development, but structurally sound throughout.
Key indicators: visible corner and stress-point wear, patina, intact structure.
What to expect: a characterful piece with life ahead of it.
5 – Vintage / Well-Loved
Significant wear indicating extensive use. May show scuffs, staining, or areas of structural compromise. Graded, priced, and disclosed accordingly.
Key indicators: pronounced wear, possible staining or structural softening.
What to expect: full transparency on every flaw before you buy. Rarely offered in the JaneFinds collection.
Every grade is assigned by hand after in-person authentication. Where a piece sits between tiers, we grade conservatively and disclose specifics in the listing.
