Kelly 35 Picnic in Fauve Barenia and Osier wicker with Palladium hardware. The original Picnic Kelly size, and the format that launched the entire wicker program when Jean-Paul Gaultier introduced it as a limited edition in his final collection for Hermès in 2011. The 35 cm body is hand-woven Osier (willow) wicker in the Kelly's trapezoidal geometry. Barenia leather covers the flap, single top handle, sangles, base, side gussets, and detachable shoulder strap. The wicker panels are stitched to the leather frame using matching leather lacings along the seams. Contrast white saddle stitching throughout the Barenia. Palladium hardware. Clochette with lock and keys.

Barenia in Fauve is a warm, medium tan that will develop patina over time. A few natural marks on the leather are noted, consistent with the material's character; Barenia is uncoated and records its history. The wicker reads as a lighter, blonde tone against the warmer leather, and the two materials age on completely different trajectories. Interior is lined in Barenia with open wall pockets. At 35 cm this is the largest Picnic Kelly produced and offers genuine carrying capacity rather than the display-scale proportions of the Mini 20. C stamp, 2018 production.

Collector's Insight: The Kelly 35 Picnic is where the wicker program began. Gaultier's original 2011 release was in Fauve Barenia at 35 cm, and subsequent production has continued the same specification across stamp years. The 35 cm is no longer the dominant Kelly size at retail (market preference has shifted to 25 and 28), but in the Picnic format the larger face gives the wicker weave more visual presence and the bag more practical capacity. Barenia is the original Picnic leather; later editions introduced Swift. Excellent condition with natural Barenia marks is expected on a 2018 piece that has seen careful use; the marks are part of how the material is designed to behave.

Resale Insight: Picnic Kelly 35s trade below the Mini 20 on a per-piece basis because the market currently favors smaller formats, but they hold steady demand from collectors who want the original Picnic proportion and genuine daily-use capacity. The 35 cm also has the advantage of being the historically significant size: it is the one that started the program. Excellent condition with full set (lock, keys, clochette, box, dust bag, ribbon) is a strong position. Wicker condition is the critical variable as always; intact weave with no strand separation or breakage is what separates a tradeable piece from a compromised one.
