The Kelly En Désordre takes the most disciplined bag the house makes and pulls it out of alignment on purpose. It arrived on the Autumn-Winter 2022 runway and reads as a Kelly that has been split down the middle and reassembled slightly wrong: two exterior flaps, each with its own sangle and touret, one opening into the main compartment and the other covering a flat exterior pocket cut at an angle. The body is trapezoidal in plan as well as profile, measuring 20 centimetres across the top and 25 across the base, and the two ends of the main compartment are gusseted to different widths. None of the asymmetry is accidental.

Sellier construction is what makes it land. Rigid panels and external saddle stitching hold every off-axis line exactly where it was drawn, so the bag reads as deliberate rather than slumped, where a Retourne build would soften the edges and lose the whole effect. Epsom is the same argument in leather: a pressed, fine-grained calfskin that holds a corner instead of relaxing into one. Ardoise is the slate grey its name describes, and Permabrass is the reason the pairing works, a muted brushed warm metal that sits against a cool grey without the glare polished gold would bring.

The top handle is gone. In its place is a fixed shoulder strap, which makes this a shoulder bag rather than a Kelly that can also be worn, and the reference point is the vintage Mini Kelly 20, the original attached-strap Kelly, rather than anything in the current line.

Collector's Insight: En Désordre is the rare case of Hermès breaking its own codes rather than extending them, and it ran as a limited edition rather than joining the line, so the population is closed at whatever was produced. The appeal is narrower than a standard Kelly by design: a client who wants the classic silhouette will not want this one, which is precisely why the people who do want it have so little to choose from. Permabrass narrows it further, appearing far less often on this model than gold or palladium.

Resale Insight: The En Désordre is not measured against standard Kelly 20s, because it is not the same bag and the buyer is not cross-shopping them. Comparables come only from the closed 2022 run and surface infrequently, so colour and hardware combination drive placement more than they would on a standing model. Grey with a brushed warm metal is a quieter reading of a loud design, which reaches a different buyer than the black and Gold examples that make up most of what appears.
