Introduced in 2008 as the successor to the Kelly Longue, which was discontinued that year. The clutch expression of the Kelly: the same turn-lock closure and signature flap in a flat, elongated east-west format.

So Black took monochrome to its limit: leather, hardware, lock, keys and stitching all in black, so the bag reads as a single dark form with no metal flashing against it. The collection came from Jean Paul Gaultier's tenure as the house's women's creative director.

The Kelly Cut is the Kelly's evening clutch: long, flat and carried by a single flat top handle. In Noir Box, the house's classic smooth calfskin, the semi-gloss surface gives the all-black form just enough sheen to show its lines.

Collector's Insight:
So Black was a 2010 edition that has not been reissued in its original form. Its black PVD hardware is prone to chipping, so the finish on the turn-lock and fittings is what collectors examine most closely.

Resale Insight:
Buyers check the PVD coating on the turn-lock and handle fittings for chips, which cannot be refinished to match, and the Box for scratches along the flap edge.
