Hermès Constance Elan 29 Black Chèvre Permabrass Hardware

Sale price$18,950.00 USD

Hermès Constance Elan Black Chèvre Permabrass Hardware

The current-production Constance Elan — the elongated, rectangular variant of the Constance line. This version (sometimes designated "Constance 1 Elan") features a single interior compartment rather than the divided interior of earlier Constance models, with a removable pocket mirror integrated into the front wall. The slimmer profile and single-compartment layout distinguish it from both the classic Constance 24 and the original Elan format.

Black Chèvre leather with tonal stitching. The Chèvre grain is visible across the front and back panels — tight, slightly vertical texture characteristic of goatskin, offering higher scratch resistance than Togo or Swift. The signature H clasp is Permabrass hardware: a warm-toned brass alloy with a protective surface treatment that resists tarnishing and oxidation, sitting between gold and champagne gold in tone. The adjustable shoulder strap threads through two Permabrass tabs at the top edge, allowing crossbody or shoulder wear.

Interior is lined in black lambskin with two open pockets on the front wall, a removable mirror, and a slip pocket on the back wall.

JaneFinds Collector's Insight:
The Constance was designed by Catherine Chaillet in 1959, named after her fifth daughter. The Elan is the elongated rectangular variant — slimmer and wider than the square Constance 18 or 24. Hermès relaunched the Elan in the current "1" configuration (single compartment, mirror) starting in 2024, replacing the earlier multi-compartment Elan format. The Chèvre leather and Permabrass hardware combination places this in the upper tier of Hermès standard offerings — Chèvre is among the most durable and structured leathers in the Hermès range, and Permabrass is a newer hardware option (introduced alongside Rose Gold and Palladium Enamel Lacquer) that has become increasingly allocated at boutique level. The PurseForum confirms early Constance Elan allocations in Paris were offered specifically in Noir Chèvre Chamkila with Permabrass.

JaneFinds Market Insight:
The Constance Elan in any configuration is among the harder Hermès bags to acquire at retail — allocation is limited relative to the Birkin and Kelly. Permabrass hardware is newer and less widely distributed than gold or palladium, adding a scarcity factor. Chèvre leather ages exceptionally well: it holds its shape, resists scratching, and develops minimal corner wear compared to Togo or Clemence. The Elan's elongated format polarizes collectors — those who prefer it value the crossbody versatility and slimmer profile; those who prefer the classic Constance 24 favor its boxier silhouette and larger capacity. As a 2025 production piece in pristine condition with full set, this represents current retail-level availability.
