The story behind the Constance

In 1967, Jean-Louis Dumas asked a designer to create a bag for Hermès; she named it after her newborn daughter, Constance. A structured shoulder bag defined by its H clasp, which opens on a spring mechanism hidden at each side of the bar and serves as both closure and signature. Produced in Mini (18 cm), standard (24 cm) and Élan (approximately 25 cm); a Micro at approximately 14 cm has appeared in limited production runs.

Trench is a warm sand-beige ; lighter than Etoupe, warmer than Craie, with no pink or gray undertone. In Epsom's pressed grain the color reads flat and uniform across the entire surface with no tonal variation between panels.

Epsom holds the Constance's structured, slim profile without softening over time. The bag sits flat against the body on a fixed-length crossbody strap. The signature H clasp functions as the sole closure ; a snap-lock mechanism concealed behind the oversized hardware. Rose Gold hardware sits between Gold and Palladium in warmth, complementing Trench without competing with it. Dark contrast edging on the flap, gussets, and strap defines every line. Interior is divided into two compartments with a center partition.

Constance 24 is the mid-size in the range ; large enough for daily carry, slim enough to read as a crossbody rather than a satchel. Epsom is less commonly seen on Constance than Evercolor or Swift; the rigid leather holds the flat silhouette sharper but is a less frequent production pairing. Rose Gold hardware was introduced to the Hermès lineup around 2020 and is produced in smaller quantities than Gold or Palladium, making it the least available of the three standard hardware finishes.
