Hermès Bolide Picnic Fauve Barenia Osier Wicker Palladium Hardware

Bolide Picnic in Fauve Barenia and Osier wicker with Palladium hardware. The Bolide is the oldest continuously produced Hermès bag design, originally created in the 1920s. The Picnic version replaces the leather body with hand-woven Osier (willow) wicker, retaining Barenia leather on the top panel, dual rolled handles, base, and trim. The top edge is finished with a braided wicker border rather than the standard Bolide zip, and the front closure uses the Clou de Selle snap, a hardware element drawn from Hermès saddlery. Leather flower knots accent the handle base attachments. The wicker body is rigid and tapers slightly from top to base, giving the Bolide Picnic a more structured profile than its all-leather equivalent.

Barenia is smooth, uncoated calfskin with contrast white saddle stitching. Fauve is the standard Barenia tone: a warm, medium-brown tan. Like all Barenia, it will develop patina over time as it absorbs oils from handling, darkening and gaining character while the wicker remains static. Palladium hardware cools the composition. Interior has two flat pockets. A stamp, 2017 production.

Collector's Insight: The Bolide Picnic is the least frequently seen silhouette in the Hermès wicker program. Picnic Kellys and Birkins receive most of the attention and production allocation; the Bolide version was produced in very small numbers and has not been reissued with the same regularity. The Bolide's rounded silhouette is harder to execute in wicker than the Kelly's trapezoidal or the Birkin's rectangular form, which may contribute to the limited output. Barenia is the correct period leather for 2017 Picnic production. Pristine condition on a piece produced eight years ago means the Barenia has not yet begun to patina, preserving the original factory tone.

Resale Insight: Bolide Picnics surface on the secondary market less frequently than any other Picnic format. Fewer were produced, fewer collectors know the model exists, and the ones that do know are specifically looking for it. The same wicker fragility dynamics apply: no repair path for strand damage, so pristine examples become rarer over time. The Bolide's understated profile (no turn-lock, no sangles, no Kelly or Birkin name recognition) appeals to a collector who values scarcity and design heritage over logo-driven demand.
