The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsThis rare 40cm Etoupe Clemence Birkin HAC reinterprets that heritage for modern collectors, offering a taller profile with shorter handles than the standard Birkin. The result is a bold, architectural silhouette that is both practical and striking. Etoupe, Hermès' most versatile gray-taupe, pairs effortlessly with palladium hardware for understated refinement.
Collector's Insight:
The HAC Birkin remains one of the most coveted variants in Hermès' travel lineage. At 40cm, it delivers presence and functionality in equal measure, a piece that embodies the maison's heritage while offering unmatched versatility for modern use.
Resale Insight:
The Birkin 40 is among the most consistently traded formats in the resale market. In a durable leather like Clemence, it is built to be carried regularly rather than saved for occasions.
