Hermès Birkin 40 French Blue Fjord Gold Hardware

Sale price$23,000.00 USD

Hermès Birkin 40 French Blue Fjord Gold Hardware

Fjord is a matte, heavily grained bull calfskin with a wider, flatter grain than Togo or Clemence and a characteristic vertical veining visible across the surface. It is among the most durable and scratch-resistant leathers Hermès has used, and one of the heaviest. Hermès phased Fjord out of regular production in the mid-2010s, placing this 2011 example within the leather's active period.

French Blue is a clear, saturated mid-blue that reads vivid against the matte Fjord surface, with Gold hardware setting a warm contrast that pulls the blue slightly warmer. The 40cm is the largest standard Birkin, a travel-scale format produced in lower volume in current Hermès allocation than the B25 through B35 range.

Collector's Insight:
Fjord's weight and structure suit the B40 travel scale, holding shape under load better than softer grains like Clemence. The grain's durability made it a favored choice for the larger formats during its production years.

Resale Insight:
Birkin 40 trades in a narrower market than the B30 and B35 daily-carry sizes, drawing travel-format buyers and collectors of the larger silhouette. In a now-discontinued leather and a saturated blue, this piece appeals to buyers sourcing a specific vintage-era configuration rather than current production.
