The Hermès Birkin 40 "Grizzly" in Blue Thalassa Veau Doblis with Permabrass Hardware is one of the rarest Birkin variations. The Grizzly line (produced primarily 2011-2013) reverses the typical leather construction—the body is suede (Veau Doblis) while the handles, straps, and structural elements are Swift leather. Blue Thalassa is a deep teal-blue that looks darker in suede form due to the matte texture. The suede absorbs rather than reflects light, creating depth.
Permabrass hardware is what Hermès calls "Champagne Gold"—a pale gold tone that sits between standard Gold and Palladium. It was produced for a limited period and is significantly rarer than standard hardware finishes. The 40cm Birkin is travel-bag sized—this is the largest standard Birkin format and was produced in far smaller quantities than 30cm or 35cm, particularly in specialty constructions like Grizzly.
