Hermès Birkin 30 Bleu Tempête Grizzly Doblis and Swift Permabrass Hardware

Grizzly is the Hermès construction that pairs Veau Doblis suede on the body panels with smooth Swift on the handles, sangles, gussets and structural trim. The two materials carry the same color but return light in opposite ways: the napped Doblis absorbs it into a velvety matte field, the Swift reflects it back brighter, and the contrast between body and structure is the whole point of the build.

Bleu Tempête is a deep desaturated teal with cool grey underneath. On suede that reads darker and more atmospheric than it would on calfskin — the nap swallows the highlights, so the color sits rather than shines. Permabrass is the right metal against it: warmer than palladium, softer than gold, and unusual enough that it appears on a small fraction of production.

The interior departs from a standard Birkin as well, lined in Hermès herringbone toile canvas with Swift leather pockets.

This example is essentially like new. On a Doblis bag that is the entire proposition: the nap is even and unrubbed across every panel, the corners are sharp, the Swift trim is unmarked and the Permabrass is bright. Suede cannot be refinished once the nap is crushed or worn through, so a Grizzly that has stayed in this state has been stored and carried with real care.

Collector's Insight: Grizzly ran in limited seasonal batches and has not appeared in current production for several years. The construction requires two leathers cut and assembled to the same tolerance, which caps output on its own. Bleu Tempête was introduced and retired within a few seasons, so this is two discontinued variables on one bag.

Resale Insight: Grizzly Birkins trade above standard leather Birkins of the same size and grade, drawing a collector subset that seeks the dual-material build specifically. On suede, condition does more work than on any smooth leather, since the nap cannot be restored — an essentially-like-new example sits well above where the grade alone would place it. Permabrass narrows the pool further and is not orderable on current production.
