Hermès Birkin 28 HAC White Epsom Palladium Hardware
Hermès HAC 28 White Epsom Palladium Hardware
The Hermès Haut à Courroies (HAC) 28 is an exceptionally rare, discontinued proportion that serves as the historical precursor to the modern Birkin. Originally designed for transporting equestrian gear, this 28cm iteration shrinks the massive travel silhouette down to a petite handbag size, featuring slightly taller vertical proportions and shorter handles than a standard Birkin 30. It offers a unique architectural profile that stands apart from the ubiquitous Birkin and Kelly shapes.
Crafted in White Epsom leather, this piece maintains the rigid structure essential to the HAC style. Epsom is a heat-pressed, embossed leather known for its durability and resistance to scratching, making it an ideal choice for maintaining the pristine nature of a white bag. Produced in 2007 (Stamp K Square), it is accented with cool Palladium hardware, creating a stark, monochromatic aesthetic that feels both vintage and contemporary.

Collector's Insight:
The HAC 28 is a "Ghost" size in the Hermès archive. While the HAC 32, 40, and 50 are well-documented, the 28cm version is a true anomaly that appears infrequently on the secondary market. It appeals to the collector who loves the Birkin 25's scale but desires the taller, more formal posture of the HAC. Finding one in White Epsom is particularly scarce.
Resale Insight:
Discontinued sizes often command a premium due to their scarcity. The HAC 28 offers a distinct appeal: it is a wearable piece of history that fits modern lifestyle needs (phones, wallets, essentials) better than the micro-bags, yet remains distinct from the standard Birkin 30. A White Epsom example in excellent condition from 2007 is a resilient asset.
