The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.

Ostrich is recognized by its quill follicles, most pronounced across the center panels, and the raised pattern breaks up the pink so it reads textured rather than flat. Palladium hardware and tonal stitching keep the focus on the skin.
Collector's Insight:
Verso is a house-designed configuration rather than a client special order, made on a small number of bags each season, and on ostrich it sets two colors against a textured skin.
Resale Insight:
Ostrich is durable but shows darkening at the follicles and edge wear at the corners, so buyers check those points and the handle bases first.
