The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsSwift takes the color deeply and evenly across its smooth surface, with more pigment density than a grained leather gives, and it renders pastels with a precision that Togo or Epsom would soften.
The trade-off is that Swift shows contact marks more readily than textured leathers. Rose gold hardware adds a warm, pink-toned finish in the same family as the color.
Collector's Insight:
Rose gold hardware is made in far smaller quantities than gold or palladium, and on a pastel pink it keeps the whole bag in one soft register.
Resale Insight:
Pale Swift shows marks and color transfer readily, so buyers check the corners, the front panel and the handles first.
