Hermès Lettre au Carré "A" Charm Rouge H/Capucine/Bleu Céleste

Lettre au Carré "A" charm in Epsom and Sombrero II calfskin with Chèvre Mysore goatskin. Part of the alphabet charm series Hermès launched in 2018, drawing on an Art Deco letterform originally commissioned by the house in the 1930s and catalogued in the Hermès archives as "fantasy alphabet, cut-out blue and red leather." Each of the 26 letters uses a different color combination. The "A" pairs a deep bordeaux ground with Capucine (bright orange-red) and Bleu Céleste in a geometric inlay pattern. The construction is leather marquetry: each color is a separate piece of leather cut and fitted together, not printed or painted.

Square format at 6 x 6 x 1.5 cm with a leather loop attachment. Sized to hang from a bag handle alongside a Twilly or clochette without overwhelming a smaller bag. Pictured on a Kelly as a styling reference; the Kelly is not included.

Collector's Insight: The Lettre au Carré charms are the accessory counterpart to the Kellygraphie letter bags from the same 2018 Resort collection. Both use the same 1930s archive letterforms and the same leather inlay technique. The charm series covers all 26 letters, each in a unique colorway, making complete alphabet sets a collector pursuit. Individual letters with personal significance (initials, names) tend to be sought after more selectively than the bags themselves, which were produced in extremely limited quantities and only in the letters spelling "Hermès."

Resale Insight: Lettre au Carré charms appear infrequently on the secondary market. They were not a permanent collection item, and boutique quantities were limited during the production run. The leather marquetry construction makes them more labor-intensive than standard bag charms, which is reflected in the original retail relative to simpler leather accessories. Demand is name- and initial-driven, so certain letters move faster than others.
