The Keepall is the bag Louis Vuitton built its modern identity on, and the 1/1 runway pieces are where the house takes it furthest from the monogram canvas most people picture. This one drops the print entirely: matte black alligator across the body, black calfskin at the trim and handles, and hardware finished in black rather than the usual brass.

Matte alligator behaves differently from the polished finish. Buffed rather than agate-glazed, the scales hold their relief without throwing light, so the skin reads as texture instead of shine, and at 45 cm the panels are large enough that the scale pattern has room to show its graduation from spine to flank. Rendering the whole bag in one register — black skin, black leather, black metal — removes every contrast point, which is the entire argument of the piece: the shape and the grain do the work with nothing else competing.
