Hermès Sabot Noir Epsom Gold Hardware
Hermès Sabot Noir Epsom Gold Hardware
The Sabot takes its name from the French word for hoof, and the silhouette follows it literally: a curved, asymmetric body that tapers from a wide circular opening down to a narrower base, carried by a single arched handle. Braided leather lacing runs the exterior edges, referencing traditional saddlery. Epsom's embossed grain holds the sculpted shape precisely — a softer leather would collapse the profile the design depends on.
Part of Hermès' equestrian-heritage silhouette family, the Sabot debuted in wicker Osier for the Picnic line before expanding into leather executions. Noir with Gold hardware is the most versatile specification the format is offered in.
This example includes a custom silk insert made by JaneFinds — shaped to the Sabot's asymmetric interior to hold the profile upright in storage and organize an otherwise open, unpocketed body.

Collector's Insight:
The leather Sabot is a limited-production silhouette distinct from the wicker Picnic version. It has no flap, no closure hardware, and no interior pockets — the hoof-shaped profile is unlike anything else in the Hermès lineup, and it functions as much as a design object as a carryall. It draws collectors who look beyond the Birkin, Kelly, and Constance canon.
Resale Insight:
The Sabot surfaces infrequently on the secondary market given limited production across all materials, and leather versions are rarer than the wicker Picnic editions. As a runway-originated silhouette with a strong visual identity, it holds collector value that rises as the design rotates in and out of production.
