Blue France is one of the house's clearest blues, a saturated primary with no grey in it, and Courchevel is the leather that shows it best. Courchevel is a pressed grained calfskin, glazed and embossed to a fine, even grain that holds its shape and resists the softening that overtakes lighter calfskins. It was retired from the active leather program years ago, which places this piece firmly in the vintage era and makes the leather itself part of what is being bought.
The Kelly Pochette compresses the Kelly vocabulary into a single flat envelope: the turn-lock closure, the sangles, the trapezoid flap, all reduced to evening scale. What distinguishes this example is that it is not fixed to one way of being carried. The construction allows a belt or a scarf to be threaded through, so it works as a clutch in hand or as a belt bag at the waist, depending on how it is dressed.

Collector's Insight: Courchevel is the point of interest here. Hermès discontinued it, so the population is fixed and shrinking, and no new example will ever be produced. Pieces in it are dated by their material rather than by their stamp. The convertible belt-and-scarf carry is the second thing worth noting, since it predates the current wave of Hermès belt bags by a considerable margin and was achieved through construction rather than through added hardware.
Resale Insight: Two buyers compete for this. The Kelly completist wants the Pochette as the smallest expression of the silhouette, and the vintage-leather collector wants a Courchevel piece in a pristine grade, which is the harder of the two things to find. Condition 1 in a discontinued leather is what sets the ceiling here, not the model name.
