A first-generation Kelly Doll Quelle Idole from the 2000 millennium release. Designed by Jean-Louis Dumas, then Hermès artistic director, the Quelle Idole translated the Kelly silhouette into anthropomorphic form: face features, articulated arms, splayed feet, rounded ears. The piece functioned as Hermès' formal commentary on the Kelly's place in popular culture, a self-aware millennium statement from the house that produces the original.
Gulliver is the leather most associated with the original Quelle Idole production. A soft, slightly veiny calfskin with subtle natural grain, Gulliver has since been retired from current Hermès production, making first-generation Gulliver Kelly Dolls a closed collector category. Noir Gulliver reads as a deep matte black with the leather's characteristic veining visible in raking light.
Brown leather accents detail the doll's articulated features: the raised and resting arms, the splayed feet, the inner ear linings, and the curved mouth at the front. The accent leather provides the visual depth that distinguishes the Quelle Idole from a simple novelty silhouette. The JaneFinds Beaded Semi-Precious Stone Crossbody Chain is hand-knotted from up to 60 varieties of natural semi-precious stones strung between lobster-clasp hardware at each end. The clasp configuration attaches directly to the sangle hardware of Hermès bags and converts the bag to crossbody or shoulder wear. The chain also functions independently as a long necklace without a bag attached.
Documented stone varieties include amethyst, apatite, carnelian, citrine, emerald, labradorite, lemon quartz, peach moonstone, peridot, Peruvian opal, pink moonstone, prehnite, rose quartz, ruby, sunstone, and tourmaline. Each stone is individually hand-knotted between adjacent stones, securing the strand against bead loss in the event of any single break.
