The story behind the Kelly Danse
Designed by Jean Paul Gaultier and introduced in 2008, discontinued in 2013 and reintroduced in 2019 as the Kelly Danse II. An adjustable strap lets it be carried as a clutch, on the shoulder, crossbody, at the waist or as a backpack.
Rose D'Été is a soft, pastel pink with warm peach undertones. Evercolor is a flat-grain calfskin with a matte finish and moderate structure, more scratch-resistant than Swift. Palladium hardware maintains a cool register against the warm pink. The Kelly Danse is a transformable design worn as a crossbody, shoulder, backpack, belt bag, hand carry, or clutch by adjusting the single long strap through the Kelly-style handle. Kelly turn-lock closure on the front flap.
Collector's Insight:
Rose D'Été is a seasonal color that has not been in continuous production, making it a fixed-supply colorway. The original Kelly Danse was discontinued before the 2024 reissue as the Kelly Danse II, making original-era examples in seasonal colors increasingly scarce. Evercolor on the Kelly Danse provides a slightly more durable surface than Swift, which is relevant for a bag designed to be worn in multiple active configurations.
Resale Insight:
Original Kelly Danse bags in seasonal pink tones trade at premiums on the secondary market. Rose D'Été appeals to collectors seeking a soft, wearable pink that functions as a near-neutral. Pristine condition on a 2020 production piece suggests very limited use.
