The Kelly Cut is the evening clutch format of the Kelly family: elongated, flat, with a single flat top handle for hand carry. Box is Hermès's oldest calfskin, smooth with a semi-gloss surface that produces a mirror-like depth in black. The PVD coating on the hardware is a technology borrowed from the watch industry, producing a matte black finish that is darker and more durable than traditional plating. The contrast between the glossy Box surface and the matte PVD metalwork is the single tonal variation in the entire object.
