The story behind the Kelly

Created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a women's bag with straps: a trapezoid with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps. It took the Kelly name in 1956, when Grace Kelly made it famous. Sellier construction keeps the seams on the outside for a more defined outline; Retourné construction turns them inside for softer edges. The leather does not decide the construction: Box calf Kellys are recorded in both.

Anemone is a saturated violet with enough red warmth to read vivid rather than dark. Epsom's embossed grain carries the pigment evenly, and Sellier construction sharpens the Kelly 25 into its most architectural form, with external saddle stitching and crisp corners.

Gold hardware against violet pulls the red undertone forward and gives the pairing warmth, and the detachable shoulder strap lets the bag go from hand to shoulder.

Anemone returns in waves rather than staying in continuous production, and it has become one of the house's best-known purples.

Saturated Epsom resists scratches but shows color loss at the corners, so buyers check those and the handle first.
