Hermès Jige PM 29 Ebène Troika (Pony Hair) & Fauve Barenia Leather

Sale price$15,825.00 CAD

Hermès Jige PM Ébène Troika Pony Hair Fauve Barenia

The Jige is Hermès' most pared-down clutch: a flat envelope closed by a leather H tab that slides under a strap, no hardware anywhere in the construction. This PM pairs two materials against each other, an Ébène Troika body in hair-on-calf, the dark pile absorbing light into a velvety depth, framed and tabbed in smooth Fauve Barenia, the warm saddle leather supplying the matte contrast and the H itself.

Troika is a hair-on-hide finish Hermès produced in limited runs and rarely makes now, and the Ébène pile reads almost black in low light, warming to deep brown in direct light where the individual hairs catch. The Barenia trim is the house's original saddle leather, and the pairing sets the two heritage materials, one textural, one smooth, in direct dialogue across the clutch. Contrast topstitching outlines both.

Collector's Insight:
Troika hair-on-calf appeared in limited production in the 2000s and has largely left the catalog, which makes surviving examples specialty-texture pieces rather than standard leather goods. On the Jige, the hardware-free H-tab construction puts the focus entirely on material, and the Ébène Troika with Fauve Barenia pairing is a collector configuration that depends on both the rare pile finish and the heritage saddle leather being present together.

Resale Insight:
Vintage Hermès in Troika and other specialty hair-on textures trades above standard leather equivalents on scarcity, since the house produces very few hair-on-hide pieces now. Pristine examples from the 2000s have become collected artifacts rather than wearing clutches, and a full-set Jige in an intact, unworn pile sits at the top of that narrow supply, the pile being the element most vulnerable to wear and least recoverable once flattened.
