Hermès HAC 50 Ecru Beige Toile Criss and Gold Evercolor Palladium Hardware
The Haut à Courroies is the origin of the entire Birkin line — a bag designed in the 1890s to carry a saddle and riding boots, and the direct ancestor from which the Birkin was adapted nearly a century later. At 50cm it remains what it was built to be: a genuine travel bag, taller in proportion than any Birkin and unmistakable in a cabin or a hotel lobby.
This configuration pairs Toile Criss canvas in Ecru Beige with Gold Evercolor calfskin at the flap, handles, sangles, and corners. Toile Criss is the fine micro-check canvas Hermès reserves for its lighter travel pieces, dramatically reducing carrying weight at this scale while showing the house's white saddle stitching to full effect against the pale ground. Evercolor is a modern smooth calfskin with a soft matte finish and a fine hand, chosen here in Gold — the warm tan that reads as the definitive Hermès leather tone.
Palladium hardware keeps the metal cool against the warm canvas-and-tan palette. Purchased new at the Hermès Madison Avenue maison and presented unworn.

Collector's Insight:
Canvas-and-leather HACs occupy a narrow production lane: the toile pieces are made in far smaller numbers than all-leather travel bags, and the 50 is the least-allocated size in the format because so few clients are offered one. A current-season example acquired new at a US maison is effectively unobtainable through ordinary channels — travel HACs are among the most tightly controlled offers Hermès makes.
Resale Insight:
The travel HAC market runs on scarcity rather than volume. Liquidity is lower than for handbag formats, but so is supply, and store-fresh current-production examples carry the strongest position in the category: no wear to grade, current stamp, and full documentation of origin.
