The story behind the Constance

In 1967, Jean-Louis Dumas asked a designer to create a bag for Hermès; she named it after her newborn daughter, Constance. A structured shoulder bag defined by its H clasp, which opens on a spring mechanism hidden at each side of the bar and serves as both closure and signature. Produced in Mini (18 cm), standard (24 cm) and Élan (approximately 25 cm); a Micro at approximately 14 cm has appeared in limited production runs.

The polished palladium H clasp provides a clean contrast to the textured leather, while tonal stitching follows the bag's rounded edges.

The 24 cm format features a divided gusseted body and a matching strap that can be worn long or doubled for a shorter shoulder carry. Its structured silhouette works equally well with relaxed denim or more tailored dressing.

Gris Agate is one of the grays Hermès associates with its exotic skins. On ostrich the quill follicles sit darker than the skin between them, so the color reads in two tones across the flap.
