Hermès Birkin Bijou Précieux 18K White Gold Diamond Chain Mail Necklace

The Birkin rendered in woven gold. The body of the miniature bag is cotte de mailles, chain mail woven from 18K white gold wire, a mesh that drapes and shifts like fabric instead of holding a rigid shape. The two handles, the top frame and the sangles are solid gold, set with pavé diamonds along the front band.
It hangs from a long Chaîne d'Ancre link chain punctuated with H links. Worn full length it sits as a sautoir; doubled it wears as a choker; unclipped it becomes a charm on a bag handle.
The accompanying diamond passport records white diamonds in a pavé setting at VVS clarity and F–G colour.

Collector's Insight: The Bijou Précieux pieces come out of Hermès Haute Bijouterie rather than the leather ateliers, made by goldsmiths in small batches. The Birkin execution is the rarer of the two silhouettes; the Kelly appears far more often. Chain mail at this scale is slow work, and the output reflects it.
Resale Insight: Hermès high jewelry moves privately and surfaces infrequently at auction.
