Hermès Birkin 40 Bleu Électrique Shiny Porosus Crocodile Palladium Hardware

Bleu Électrique is among the most saturated blues the house has issued, a high-voltage tone that holds its intensity in low light where softer blues collapse toward grey. Porosus is the saltwater crocodile at the top of the Hermès skin hierarchy, marked on the leather with a caret beside the blind stamp, and it is chosen for small, tightly symmetrical scales that let a strong color read as an even field rather than as a pattern.

The Lisse finish is not a coating. The skin is burnished by hand with an agate stone until the natural proteins take on a gloss, which is why the shine sits inside the surface rather than on top of it, and why it deepens the pigment instead of glazing over it. At 40 centimetres the binding constraint becomes size: the panels demand hides large enough to run unbroken, and every additional centimetre of required surface raises the odds that a scar or an irregular scale row disqualifies the skin.

Condition: 1 – Pristine

Hardware: Palladium
Dimensions: 40 × 30 × 21 cm | 15.7" × 11.8" × 8.3"

Collector's Insight: The 40 was the working end of the Birkin line, and the market moved away from it: allocation and demand both concentrated at 25 and 30 across the last decade, so large-format exotics stopped being produced in any number. A saturated color compounds it, since a bright exotic is a commissioning decision rather than a stock one. The two together describe a bag the house is unlikely to build again at this scale.

Resale Insight: Travel-scale exotics reach a narrower buyer than the small sizes, and they surface infrequently enough that each appearance largely sets its own reference rather than sitting against a run of comparables. The audience is usually a collector adding scale or color to an established group, not someone acquiring a first Hermès.
