Hermès Birkin 35 Sellier "Sunrise" Rainbow Epsom Palladium Hardware
Hermès Birkin 35 Sellier "Sunrise" Rainbow Epsom Palladium Hardware
Sunrise Rainbow is built rather than dyed. Hermès assembles the front and back panels from four separate Epsom hides joined by applique stitching, so the bag carries graduated bands of color the way a sky does at dawn: Lime at the handles, Sesame across the flap and upper panel, Rose Confetti through the center, and Terre Battue grounding the base. Tonal stitching keeps the seams quiet, which is what allows the bands to read as a gradient rather than as patchwork.
The construction is the reason the edition works at 35. Sellier assembly turns the seams outward and stiffens the silhouette into hard architectural edges, and a color-blocked bag needs exactly that discipline: every band terminates on a crisp line instead of curving around a soft corner. Epsom carries it further, since the pressed grain holds each shade flat and separate where a supple leather would let them bleed into one another under light. Palladium keeps the metal neutral against four competing colors.
The interior is lined in Sesame chevre, with one zip pocket and one open pocket opposite.

Collector's Insight: The Rainbow editions are among the few Hermès runs where the labor, not the material, is the constraint. Four hides have to be cut, matched and applique-stitched into a single panel with no margin for a mismatched seam, which caps how many can be produced regardless of demand. The 35 compounds it: the size had already fallen out of favor against the 25 and 30 by 2020, so fewer were built in the largest format, and the ones that exist tend to sit in collections rather than circulate.
Resale Insight: A four-color bag is the opposite of a wardrobe staple, and pricing it against a Noir or Gold 35 misreads the buyer entirely. Nobody acquires this as a first Birkin or as a bag to carry weekly; it is bought as a piece, usually by someone who already owns the neutrals and wants something the boutique cannot supply. That narrows the audience sharply while making condition close to decisive, since Epsom in pale Lime and Rose Confetti shows handling at the corners and along the sangles before anywhere else and cannot be refinished back.
