The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsThe two materials share one color but return light in opposite ways: the napped Doblis absorbs it into a velvety matte field, and the Swift reflects it back brighter.
Bleu Tempête is a deep, desaturated teal with cool gray underneath, and on suede it reads darker and more atmospheric than on calfskin. Permabrass hardware, a warm pale gold, sits against the cool blue.
Collector's Insight:
Grizzly appears in occasional seasonal runs, and Bleu Tempête was a short-lived color, so the pairing on a Birkin 30 is uncommon.
Resale Insight:
Suede shows flattened nap, marks and water spots readily, so buyers inspect the Doblis panels and the seams where suede meets Swift first.
