The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsThis is the Bronze, under gold hardware that extends the metal into the fittings. Chèvre goatskin carries the metallic dye with the tight grain and color vibrancy the leather is prized for, lighter than calfskin and structurally resilient over years of use.
Interior is lined in matching Chevre leather with one zip pocket and one open pocket. Signature turn-lock closure, front flap, and sangles complete the configuration.
Collector's Insight:
The house has never said whether the metallic finish is retired or merely resting, and every year without a reissue compounds the scarcity. The capsule's three colorways trade as a set-completing pursuit among collectors of the Menchari era.
Resale Insight:
The Metallic capsule carries documented auction history: a silver example set the record for leather Birkins at auction in 2021, and a bronze sold for approximately $117,000 in 2017, roughly ten times its estimate.
