Hermès Birkin 30 Bleu du Nord Epsom Palladium Hardware
Hermès Birkin 30 Bleu du Nord Epsom Palladium Hardware
Bleu du Nord arrived in the Spring Summer 2019 collection and has run as a seasonal color rather than a shelf constant, which is the whole story of its availability. The name points north, and the shade follows: a clear light blue with enough grey in it to stay cool, lighter than Bleu Zellige and less icy than Bleu Brume. It reads as a pale sky in daylight and holds its blue rather than washing toward grey under artificial light.
Epsom is the leather that keeps it that way. The pressed cross-hatch grain sits flat and takes pigment evenly, so a pale color stays crisp at the seams and corners instead of pooling darker where the leather folds. Epsom is also the most structured of the standard calfskins, which means a 30 built in it holds its shape empty, standing square rather than slumping. Palladium keeps the metal cool against the blue; gold would have warmed it toward turquoise.
The 30 is the working size of the line, deep enough for a day without the bulk of the 35.

Collector's Insight: Seasonal colors and house colors behave differently on the secondary market, and Bleu du Nord is firmly the former. Hermès ran it in specific years rather than carrying it continuously the way it carries Noir, Gold or Bleu Marine, so the supply is fixed at whatever was produced during its run and cannot be added to. Pale blues also depend more on leather choice than most families do: the same pigment reads brighter on Swift and cooler on Epsom, so a buyer set on one version is not easily satisfied by the other.
Resale Insight: A pale seasonal blue is a second or third bag rather than a first, and that shapes who turns up for it. The buyer usually already owns a neutral 30 and is adding color, which narrows the audience but sharpens it, and it means condition carries more weight than usual because nobody is buying a pale blue Epsom to knock around. Epsom helps on that count, since its grain resists the scuffing that shows immediately on smooth leathers in light colors.
