Rouge H is the Hermès red, created in 1925 and described by the house as "an emblematic color of the House of Hermès, a very elegant dark red with a hint of brown, verging on burgundy." It sits within Hermès' permanent heritage palette alongside Noir, Bleu Marine, and Vert Anglais.
Ostrich is identified by the dense quill follicle pattern across the surface, sourced from South African farms and prepared through a flattening and tripling process that protects follicle integrity. The leather holds Birkin structure firmly but remains sensitive to direct light (lightens) and skin oils (darkens at contact points). Unlike crocodile, alligator, and lizard, ostrich carries no species identification stamp. Rouge H on ostrich reads deeper and more saturated than on calf leathers, with the matte surface and follicle pattern producing dimensional depth. Gold hardware completes the traditional warm Hermès register.
