The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsNiloticus lizard carries small, tightly uniform scales with a natural iridescence that shifts in the light, and at Birkin 25 scale the pattern reads almost like a textile at arm's length.
The color registers evenly across the fine scales, more so than on grained leather or crocodile, and palladium hardware cools the pink without muting it.

A lizard Birkin is a less common choice than crocodile or alligator, and a saturated pink shows the skin's iridescence at its strongest.
