CHANEL Minaudière Trunk Vanity Black Lucite Gold Hardware

Structured lucite minaudière in black with gold-tone metal hardware. Rigid box construction ; the body is a near-cube of high-gloss black lucite with a gold-tone metal band bisecting the front face horizontally. The CC interlocking logo sits centered on the band and functions as the clasp. A rounded black lucite top handle is fixed to the lid. The lid hinges open from the gold band.

A large passementerie tassel hangs from the base of the box. The tassel is constructed in two tiers ; an upper section of looped black beads gathered over a sculpted knot, transitioning to a lower section of loose silk thread fringe. The tassel adds approximately 8 inches to the overall length of the piece. The bag carries as a top-handle evening minaudière ; there is no shoulder strap or chain.

JaneFinds Collector's Insight:
Chanel lucite minaudières were produced exclusively for runway presentations and VIP boutique clients during Karl Lagerfeld's tenure. They were never part of general seasonal production ; quantities were extremely small, and allocation was handled directly through boutique relationships. The trunk-vanity format references the house's origins in travel goods and vanity cases. The passementerie tassel is a couture-grade embellishment ; the beadwork and silk fringe are hand-assembled, not machine-produced. This type of decorative tassel construction is associated with Chanel's Paraffection subsidiary ateliers, which preserve traditional French artisan techniques including passementerie, embroidery, and pleating.

JaneFinds Market Insight:
Lucite minaudières from the Lagerfeld era (1983–2019) are collected as sculptural objects rather than functional handbags. The interior capacity is minimal ; these are evening pieces designed to hold a lipstick, card, and key at most. Resale value is driven by condition of the lucite surface (scratches and cloudiness are irreversible), completeness of the tassel (bead loss or fringe damage cannot be repaired to original standard), and provenance documentation. Black lucite with gold hardware is the most frequently produced colorway in this format, but production numbers across all colorways remain very low.
