The crocodile also covers the flap closure area where the hardware mounts, concentrating the most durable material at the highest-stress points. Gold hardware shows patina consistent with age and handling.

The HAC (Haut à Courroies) predates the Birkin and is distinguished by its taller proportions and shorter handles, designed for vertical storage rather than arm carry.
