Hermès HAC Birkin 40 Black Suede & Crocodile Gold Hardware

Sale price$175,000.00 USD

Hermès HAC Birkin 40 Black Suede & Crocodile Gold Hardware

A suede and crocodile HAC 40. The body is black suede with a glossy crocodile center strip running vertically from the flap through the front panel, creating a tonal contrast between the matte nap of the suede and the high-sheen scale pattern of the exotic. The crocodile also covers the flap closure area where the hardware mounts, concentrating the most durable material at the highest-stress points. Gold hardware shows patina consistent with age and handling.

The HAC (Haut à Courroies) predates the Birkin and is distinguished by its taller proportions and shorter handles, designed for vertical storage rather than arm carry. At 40 cm wide and 36 cm tall, this is a substantial piece that sits in travel-bag territory. The suede-and-crocodile combination is not standard production and represents an atypical material pairing for this format.

Condition: 3 – Very Good
Color: Black (89)
Leather: Veau Doblis Suede & Crocodile
Hardware: Gold
Dimensions: 40 x 36 x 24 cm

Collector's Insight: Mixed-media HACs are produced in vanishingly small numbers, and this one pairs the most tactile Hermès finish with the most architectural format. Doblis suede is among the least common finishes in the modern catalog, retired from regular production and surfacing mainly on vintage and commissioned pieces.

Resale Insight: The pairing trades on scarcity rather than comparables, since suede-and-crocodile HACs essentially never surface in multiples. Honest Very Good grading positions the piece for the collector buying to carry rather than to case.
