The story behind the Médor
A clutch built around Hermès' Collier de Chien closure: four pyramid studs flanking a slotted plate, set on a leather strap that wraps the body and locks the flap. Made in 23 and 29 cm; Hermès no longer offers the 29.
Discover Wallets, Clutches, PochettesThe Mini Médor in its special-edition construction: a flared corset silhouette of natural horsehair, banded at the waist in Fauve Barénia calfskin set with oversized palladium Médor dome studs, finished with a slim Barénia top handle. The horsehair is left in its natural state, graduating from cream to pale blond, so no two examples read identically. Barénia is the house's original saddle leather: smooth, matte and unfinished, it develops a deep patina with handling.
Collector's Insight:
The Médor stud comes from the house's saddlery and collar work. This Mini Médor sets it on a horsehair body, a material Hermès uses far less often than leather, with Barénia carrying the studs.
Resale Insight:
Buyers compare horsehair pieces on the evenness and condition of the hair, and on the Barénia band, which marks and darkens with handling.
