The story behind the Kelly Danse
Designed by Jean Paul Gaultier and introduced in 2008, discontinued in 2013 and reintroduced in 2019 as the Kelly Danse II. An adjustable strap lets it be carried as a clutch, on the shoulder, crossbody, at the waist or as a backpack.
Orange Poppy is a bright, saturated orange with warm red undertones, distinct from the classic Orange H (deeper, more burnt) and Feu (lighter, more tangerine). Swift is a smooth, fine-grained calfskin with a matte surface that saturates color with high intensity. Gold hardware extends the warm register. The Kelly Danse is a transformable design worn as a crossbody, shoulder, backpack, belt bag, hand carry, or clutch by adjusting the single long strap. Kelly turn-lock closure on the front flap.
Collector's Insight:
The original Kelly Danse was discontinued before the 2024 reissue as the Kelly Danse II. Orange Poppy is a seasonal color that has been produced intermittently, and finding it on the original Kelly Danse in Swift represents a fixed-supply specification. Swift on the Kelly Danse produces the smoothest surface and most vivid color saturation of any leather used on this format.
Resale Insight:
Original Kelly Danse bags in statement colors trade at premiums on the secondary market. Orange Poppy with Gold hardware is a bold, warm-toned combination that appeals to collectors seeking color impact. Pristine condition at six years suggests very limited use.
