The story behind the Jige Élan

The elongated, rectangular version of the Jige, the envelope clutch Hermès has made since 1975. Closed by a leather tab pulled through an H cut into the flap, with no metal hardware. Made in 29 and 35 cm.

Even with its simple design, the signature “H” at the front. This extremely supple, sophisticated leather is named after Jonathan Swift, the author of Gulliver's Travels, to highlight its resemblance to Gulliver calfskin, which is no longer featured in today's collections. First appeared in the collections in 2004.

Interior is lined in matching leather. Hermès craftsmanship is evident in the hand-stitched saddle stitch, a technique that uses two needles working in opposite directions through pre-punched holes. Each piece is completed by a single artisan.

Collector's Insight:
Alligator production is constrained by raw material scarcity and limited annual output. Allocation within Hermès exotic bag production is among the most selective in the house.

Resale Insight:
Accessories in high-demand colors and materials like this continue to see strong performance on the secondary market due to limited boutique availability.
