The story behind the Evelyne

Named after Evelyne Bertrand, who ran the Hermès equestrian department, and dated by Hermès to 1978. The perforated H on the front let equestrian equipment dry. Pockets, strap adjustability and fittings vary by size and generation; familiar sizes include 16, 29 and 33 cm.

The perforated H and rounded lower corners give this small crossbody its distinct profile. Supple, grained leather softens the outline without the structure of a framed handbag.

Soleil and navy stripes on the Amazone strap contrast with the deep Bordeaux body, and the strap's leather ends are cut in matching Bordeaux. The strap clips to the two side rings for shoulder or crossbody wear, while a leather tab with a snap closure secures the opening.

Collector's Insight:
The striped Amazone strap is the distinguishing detail of this example. Its yellow accents bring a different character to Bordeaux than a matching, single-color strap.

Resale Insight:
On a small Clémence Evelyne, buyers check the corners, the edges of the perforated H and the strap ends at the side rings.
