Hermès Birkin 35 Noir Shiny Porosus Crocodile 18K White Gold & Diamond Hardware

Diamond hardware Birkins sit at the top of Hermès' production hierarchy. The white gold and pavé diamond components are manufactured by Hermès' in-house Joaillerie atelier independently of the bag construction, then assembled into the leather body at final stage. The cadenas, turn-lock plaque, and touret are executed in solid 18K white gold with pavé-set brilliant-cut diamonds; the cadenas itself carries the Hermès H motif in diamonds on both faces. Allocation runs through the Joaillerie program rather than standard boutique channels, with each piece treated as a separate Joaillerie commission rather than a standard exotic production unit.

Porosus crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) is the saltwater species sourced from Australia and the broader Indo-Pacific, identified on the leather stamp by the caret (^) symbol next to the Hermès marking. The species produces the tightest and most symmetrical scale pattern in Hermès' exotic production, with small visible pores at each scale (the feature that names the species) and the squared scale geometry that distinguishes Porosus from Niloticus at first reading. Shiny (lisse) finish is achieved through extended agate-stone polishing after dyeing, producing the near-lacquer surface that distinguishes Lisse from the velvety matte Porosus reading. Noir on Shiny Porosus reads as deep saturated black with the gloss surface holding light dramatically across the scale grid and amplifying the contrast against the white gold and diamond hardware.

Collector's Insight:
Diamond hardware Birkins are produced outside standard boutique allocation, with the 18K white gold and pavé diamond components manufactured by Hermès' Joaillerie atelier independently of leather production and matched to the bag at final assembly. The diamond H cadenas is a Joaillerie signature element that appears across the diamond hardware Birkin and Kelly program. Noir Shiny Porosus with diamond hardware at the 35 cm size represents one of the most formal configurations Hermès produces, anchored in the contrast between deep saturated black exotic and brilliant white gold pavé. The 2011 production year predates the most recent surge in diamond hardware demand and auction activity, placing the piece within the documented earlier-cycle Joaillerie production window.

Resale Insight:
Diamond hardware Porosus Birkins trade independently of standard exotic Birkin pricing, with valuation anchored to the Joaillerie hardware component value and the unrepeatable nature of the specification stack rather than to standard exotic resale dynamics. Christie's, Sotheby's, and Bonhams have all documented diamond hardware Porosus Birkin auction results across the past decade, providing public auction comparables for valuation reference. Excellent condition with intact diamond pavé settings, no diamond loss from the cadenas H motif, no scale lift or pore distortion on the Porosus, and complete CITES documentation commands the strongest secondary market positioning. Loose or missing pavé stones materially affect valuation and are not field-restorable.
