A horseshoe special order, marked by the small horseshoe stamped above the HERMÈS PARIS blind stamp. The horseshoe means the client specified the bag rather than accepted it: here, Nata ostrich outside against a Bleu Saphir interior, a combination that exists because someone asked for it and waited.

Ostrich is graded on the density and regularity of its quill follicles, and the panels Hermès accepts must place them evenly across the visible faces. Nata is the house's warm cream, close to raw ostrich, so the follicle pattern carries the surface rather than any depth of color. Gold hardware and tonal contrast stitching hold the whole exterior in one warm register, which is precisely what makes the interior work: the saturated blue is not visible until the bag is opened.

Collector's Insight: Special orders account for a small fraction of Hermès output and are not offered to most clients at all. The Birkin 25 receives the least exotic allocation of any Birkin size, so an HSS 25 in ostrich sits at the intersection of two narrow supplies. A contrast interior cannot be replicated through any standard order route.

Resale Insight: Horseshoe pieces trade to collectors who understand what the mark represents, and they price above equivalent standard-order bags for that reason alone. Ostrich is more condition-sensitive than calfskin because the follicles cannot be refinished, which is why an unused example with plastic intact sits at the top of what the material offers.
