Hermès Kelly 20 Mini II Sellier Blue Sapphire Ostrich Gold Hardware

Mini Kelly II (Kelly 20 Sellier) in Blue Sapphire ostrich with gold hardware. Ostrich is classified as an exotic skin ; distinguished by its raised quill follicle pattern, where each bump marks the site of a former feather. The most valued area is the "crown," the section from the back of the neck to the upper body where follicles are densest. Panel placement determines how prominently the quill pattern displays across the bag's surface; this varies between individual bags even in the same color, as each hide is unique.

Blue Sapphire (Bleu Saphir) is a semi-permanent Hermès color ; a true, saturated medium-dark blue without the navy depth of Bleu Nuit or the green undertone of Colvert. In ostrich, Blue Sapphire reads richer and more saturated than in calfskin because ostrich absorbs pigment more evenly and deeply than textured bovine leathers. Gold hardware against this depth of blue creates stronger visual contrast than palladium would.

Sellier construction. Single rolled top handle. Front flap with sangles, tournante closure, padlock, two keys, and clochette. Detachable shoulder/crossbody strap. Interior lined in Chèvre goatskin with one flat pocket.

JaneFinds Collector's Insight:
Ostrich is one of four exotic skins Hermès uses in regular production (alongside Niloticus and Porosus crocodile and Salvator lizard). It is the lightest of the exotics by weight and the most durable in everyday use, though handles and high-contact areas will develop patina ; a natural darkening from skin oils that is characteristic of ostrich, not a defect. On a Pristine/store-fresh example like this, no patina should be present. The quill follicle pattern is the primary visual identifier; smooth flanking areas on the sides will show the leather's fine grain without bumps. Ostrich takes color exceptionally well, which is why Hermès produces it in a wider range of bright and jewel-toned colors than other exotics.

JaneFinds Market Insight:
The Mini Kelly II in ostrich is produced in limited quantities each season, with color availability rotating. Blue Sapphire is a semi-permanent color that Hermès has offered across multiple production years, though availability in ostrich at 20 cm is not guaranteed in any given season. Exotic Mini Kelly II bags require a CITES certificate (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) for international transport ; buyers should confirm this documentation is included or obtainable before traveling with the bag across borders.
