The story behind the HAC
Haut à Courroies: the direct ancestor of the Birkin, made to carry riding boots and a saddle. Hermès' own chronology dates it to around 1900 and credits Émile Hermès with its design. Proportions vary by size and era: a HAC 60 dated 2002 on record is wider than it is tall.

The Haut à Courroies is the house's original format, from around 1900, taller than a Birkin of equal width with shorter handles, and executing the grand voyage scale in the smallest-scaled, most symmetrical crocodile in the hierarchy is production Hermès all but never repeats.
Interior is lined in Chevre leather with one zip pocket and one open pocket. Signature turn-lock closure, front flap, and sangles complete the configuration.
Collector's Insight:
Pale exotics show every flaw in the hide, so a dove-gray Porosus surviving grading across this surface area is itself a credential. The HAC 50 in exotic skin is a concentration of material the house allocates almost nowhere else.
