JaneFinds Collector's Insight:
"La Pausa" was the name Coco Chanel gave to the villa she commissioned in 1928 on the heights of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin on the French Riviera. Designed by architect Robert Streitz and modeled on the convent-orphanage where Chanel spent her childhood, the house served as her retreat during her relationship with the Duke of Westminster. She sold it in 1953. Chanel (the house) reacquired the property and used it as the thematic anchor for the Cruise 2019 collection ; presented at the Grand Palais in May 2018 with a full-scale recreation of the villa's staircase. The "La Pausa" bags from this collection came in multiple formats: oval evening bags, camera cases, backpacks, shopping totes, and the novelty lifesaver-buoy crossbody. The multicolor letter appliqué treatment appears across several of these formats and is specific to this season.

JaneFinds Market Insight:
Cruise collections under Lagerfeld were produced in smaller quantities than mainline seasonal releases. The oval evening bag format was one of the more limited pieces in the La Pausa range ; original retail was approximately $3,900. White lambskin is inherently more condition-sensitive than darker colorways ; color transfer, yellowing, and handling marks are the primary concerns on resale. The chevron quilting and appliqué lettering make this format instantly identifiable to the collection, which increases its specificity as a collector object.
