An aftermarket reworking of the Kelly 20 Mini II by the Paris atelier Jay Ahr, built as a one-off. The house cuts and layers the leather into raised relief across the front panel, so the surface carries depth rather than print, and the shadow it throws changes with the angle it is viewed from. The base bag is Hermès; the relief work is not, and the piece is offered on that basis.

The Kelly 20 is an unusual choice of canvas. It is the smallest Kelly format, which leaves the least panel area to work, and the Sellier build gives hard edges that relief cutting has to respect rather than flow past. Palladium hardware carries over from the base bag.

Collector's Insight: Jay Ahr works on finished Hermès bags rather than producing its own, so every piece is both a Hermès object and a separate authorship. That gives a collector two provenances to weigh and one bag to hold, and it means the population of any given treatment is whatever the atelier chose to make, with no production schedule behind it.

Resale Insight: Customized Hermès trades outside the standard comparable set, so an aftermarket artwork is measured on the artist and the base bag separately rather than against the model. That narrows the audience: the buyer has to want both, which is a smaller pool than either alone.
