CHANEL Paris-Bombay Métiers d’Art 2012 Matryoshka Doll Minaudière

Sale price$75,000.00 USD

Chanel Paris-Bombay Métiers d'Art Matryoshka Doll Minaudière

Wearable sculpture from Karl Lagerfeld's 2012 Paris-Bombay Métiers d'Art collection. Russian form meets Indian ornamentation: a nesting doll silhouette dressed in Maang Tikka headpiece constructed from Chanel's woven chain and pearls, centered by an enamel Camellia. Two decorative vocabularies, one object.

High-gloss black Lucite body carved in diamond-lattice pattern, punctuated by hand-set crystals. Hand-painted face with crystal Bindi at forehead. Push-lock access through crystal-encrusted CC logo; burgundy silk tassel hangs below. A heavy, substantial piece—less handbag than artifact. Lagerfeld treating accessories as cultural commentary.

JaneFinds Collector's Insight:
Chanel minaudières occupy a different category than leather Flap bags. Produced in limited quantities for Métiers d'Art presentations, they function as conversation pieces rather than daily carriers. The Paris-Bombay doll represents Lagerfeld's thematic storytelling at its most elaborate—unlike the Lego Clutch or Perfume Bottle bags which saw wider distribution, the dolls remain exceptionally scarce.

JaneFinds Market Insight:
Runway Lucite pieces represent the most valuable segment of the Chanel secondary market. They don't fluctuate with trend cycles—they appreciate like contemporary art. The 2012 vintage places this firmly in the Lagerfeld canon, before the 2019 transition. Acquired as sculpture rather than accessory.
