The story behind the Shoulder Birkin
Designed by Jean Paul Gaultier during his years directing Hermès women's ready-to-wear, from 2003 to 2010. The original dates to 2004, made in 40 and 42 cm until 2013, with a return in 2024 in 29 and 39 cm.
Read the Shoulder Birkin referenceAt 42 cm across it reads closer to a portfolio than a handbag.
Bleu Jean is the house's soft, washed denim blue, gray enough to work as a neutral. On Togo the raised grain holds the color evenly, contrast stitching traces the elongated panels, and palladium hardware keeps it cool.
Collector's Insight:
The JPG Shoulder Birkin was discontinued and has not returned, so the format is not available new in any color.
Resale Insight:
The long Togo handles take the most wear on a shoulder bag, so buyers check them and the base corners first.
