Hermès Birkin 30 Blue Electric Shiny Porosus Crocodile Palladium Hardware

Birkin 30 in Bleu Electrique Shiny Porosus Crocodile with palladium hardware. Porosus (Crocodylus porosus) is the saltwater crocodile ; the smallest-scaled and most uniform of the crocodile species Hermès uses. Its scale tiles are tighter, more symmetrical, and more finely textured than Niloticus (Nile) crocodile, which has larger, more irregular scales. Porosus is identified by a caret symbol (^) stamped next to the Hermès name inside the bag.

The shiny (Lisse) finish is produced by hand-buffing the skin with a smooth agate stone, drawing out the leather's natural oils to create a mirror-like surface. No coating or glaze is applied ; the finish is the skin itself. This means it will not chip or peel, but it is sensitive to water spotting and will show fine surface scratches more readily than matte crocodile. Bleu Electrique is a saturated, high-intensity cobalt blue ; brighter and more vivid than Bleu Saphir, without the purple undertone of Bleu Iris or the dark navy depth of Bleu Marine. In shiny Porosus, the color achieves its maximum saturation because the polished surface reflects light directly rather than diffusing it.

Double rolled handles. Front flap with sangles, tournante closure, padlock, two keys, and clochette. Interior lined in Bleu Electrique Chèvre goatskin with one zip pocket and one flat pocket.

JaneFinds Collector's Insight:
Porosus crocodile is the highest-tier exotic skin in the Hermès hierarchy ; its smaller, more regular scales command a premium over Niloticus crocodile and alligator. Hermès sources Porosus skins primarily from farms in Australia and Southeast Asia. Each skin is individually selected and graded; only skins with sufficient uniformity and scale symmetry across the center panel are approved for Birkin production. Bleu Electrique was introduced around 2011 and produced across several seasons ; it is not a permanent color but has been periodically reissued. In Porosus, Bleu Electrique was produced in limited runs, making the combination of this color in this skin at 30 cm a narrow production window.

JaneFinds Market Insight:
Porosus crocodile Birkins in saturated jewel-tone colors represent the intersection of the rarest skin with the most visually distinctive colorways Hermès produces. A CITES certificate (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) is required for international transport of all crocodile-skin bags. Buyers should confirm documentation is included or obtainable before traveling with the bag across borders.
