The Kelly Cut is the Kelly silhouette stretched into an elongated evening clutch. The tournant clasp and flap closure carry over from the parent bag, compressed into a slim horizontal format with a short flat top handle and no shoulder strap. It is the Kelly reduced to its most minimal expression.

Lime sits in bright yellow-green territory, more saturated than Vert Anis and cleaner than Vert Criquet. On matte alligator the color registers as a muted wash rather than the electric field a shiny finish would produce. The matte treatment is achieved by omitting the agate stone buffing that creates shiny exotic surfaces, and the result is a velvet quality that absorbs light across the scales rather than bouncing it back.

Alligator Mississippiensis is distinguished from the crocodilian species Hermès uses (Niloticus and Porosus) by its smaller, more uniform scale pattern and the absence of the umbilical scar found on crocodile skins. On the Kelly Cut's narrow horizontal format the tile grid runs uninterrupted across the front panel, giving the pattern unusual legibility at this scale. Palladium hardware cools the yellow-green, keeping the presentation restrained rather than decorative. K stamp places production at 2025.

Collector's Insight:
Matte alligator requires selection of particularly clean skins where natural tile uniformity carries the piece without the visual distraction of lacquered highlights, which keeps matte exotic production smaller than shiny. Lime is a color Hermès cycles in and out of the palette and is not part of the permanent rotation. A 2025 matte exotic Kelly Cut in a cycling color represents fresh allocation in a specification that typically does not recirculate to the secondary market for years after purchase.

Resale Insight:
Exotic Kelly Cuts hold disproportionately well relative to other Hermès clutches because the format has no leather alternative at the same structural level. Matte finishes have moved ahead of shiny in collector preference over recent years for their understated reading, and bright yellow-greens in exotic present as occasion pieces rather than daily carry, which keeps condition intact. 2025 production with full set documentation is the strongest possible profile for forward resale.
